The Last Week of School

The school year came and went so fast! And here we are, almost a month into summer holidays. I am here to document my learning and what I encounter as an educator in a play and inquiry-based kindergarten environment. Here we go!

First of all, my school is a K-3 school. A little slice of Heaven, located in a quiet community. Our school is being combined with the 4-8 school in this area. For the year, our school is closing for construction and we are moving in with the 4-8 school. Our class of 28 will be housed in a large portable with four classrooms and one bathroom. We're calling our little building "our cottage". Because we were moving, our last few weeks of the school year were spent packing, cleaning, and learning outdoors!

Tubing, funnels, and liquid containers in outdoor water play were a fun way to beat the heat.

We released the butterflies we had housed in our classroom. We took care of several caterpillars and watched their metamorphosis.
Time to pack! We asked the children to help us pack some of our classroom items away.

Some children labelled the boxes with words, others labelled using drawings of what was inside. Pictures are a form of literacy and communication just as words are.

Goodbye big, beautiful classroom! Hello cottage adventure!!!
